A Winston-Salem North Carolina poster looking up from street level at the city's Art Deco tower. Cream limestone steps back in stages toward a stepped crown, vertical piers run the full height between narrow windows, and the whole thing rises straight out of a row of red brick warehouse buildings with tin roofs, arched windows and a rooftop water tank.
About the artwork
Flat vector illustration with hard-edged blocks and no line work. Three colours do everything: flat petrol blue sky, cream and buff limestone for the tower, and tomato red brick below. Light falls from the left, so each setback casts a clean diagonal shadow down the shaft — that shadow is what gives the building its bulk. Windows are drawn as small dark blue rectangles in strict vertical runs. The foreground brickwork is textured with paler speckling, and two street lamps lean in from below. Type at the top is thin white capitals reading WINSTON-SALEM with NORTH CAROLINA letterspaced beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Art Deco, drawn properly — the setbacks, piers and stepped crown are the whole point of the composition.
- Two eras in one frame — the old brick tobacco warehouses below and the tower above, which is exactly how that district looks.
- Strong from a distance — cream against petrol blue is a high-contrast pairing that holds up across a room.
- Low viewpoint — looking up gives the print real height, useful on a tall or narrow wall.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Petrol blue and tomato red are graphic colours, so a plain wall serves them best — white, warm grey or the terracotta wall in the photographs above, where the brick picks up the same warmth. A black frame suits the Deco geometry and looks sharp on the panelled white wall; walnut softens it. It is a natural fit over a desk or in a home office.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The vertical piers and window rows reward height — 18" x 27" or 24" x 36". A tall narrow wall or a stairwell suits it particularly well.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame, wired and ready to hang.
What does the poster say? WINSTON-SALEM across the top, with NORTH CAROLINA letterspaced beneath it. No other lettering appears on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
