A Washington state flower print issued as a 1¢ stamp that never existed: WASHINGTON struck across the top in worn letterpress, three loose clusters of coast rhododendron engraved at the centre, and The Evergreen State set below the frame.
About the artwork
Crimson on pink, one ink throughout. Three trusses fill the middle of the stamp, each an open cluster of funnel-shaped blooms rather than a tight ball, and long stamens reach out past the mouth of every flower to break the outline. A fern ornament fills the lower-left corner and the 1¢ denomination sits in a circle opposite. The perforated edge is drawn as real die-cut scallops on a plain cream sheet, so the stamp sits on the page as an object. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Clusters left open. The three trusses are drawn loose, so you can follow individual funnels and stamens instead of reading one solid mass of petal.
- Crimson kept off white. Setting the red line on a pink ground softens the contrast, which is why this plate looks warm rather than sharp from across a room.
- Built as a set of fifty. Every state shares the same frame, denomination and typography, so any combination lines up.
- A gift for someone from Washington. Home state on the wall, without souvenir kitsch.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Crimson and pink is the one combination in the set that can carry a dark wall, so try it against deep green, forest ink or a moody blue-grey rather than defaulting to white. Cedar, fir and other reddish woods echo the ink, and an espresso floating frame closes the whole thing off neatly; brass picture lights suit it too. Go large where you can — 24" x 36" over a sofa or a mantel — because the trusses hold together better as a shape when the print has some scale. Living rooms and dens take it best, and it does not need a partner print: this plate is happy hung alone as the single warm object on a cool wall.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console, desk or shelf, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Can I collect more than one state? Yes. All fifty share one format and one denomination, so any combination hangs as a matched set.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
