A Viana do Castelo poster from the top of the hill: the white domed basilica on the summit, the estuary opening out below it with the city spread along the far bank, and terraced hedge gardens and red-roofed houses running down the slope in the foreground.
About the artwork
The view looks down and out at the same time, which gives the print unusual depth. The foreground is all hillside: dark green woodland at the edges and, across the lower third, a formal garden of clipped box laid out in loops and scrolls, drawn as fine pale-green lines against deeper green. Small houses with red pantile roofs sit among the trees and grey granite outcrops break through the grass. The basilica occupies the upper left, white and heavily modelled, with a large ribbed dome over the crossing, two square towers each capped by a smaller dome, a rose window, buttresses and a flight of steps at the entrance. To the right the land drops away to a broad blue estuary; the city runs flat along the opposite bank in fine pale strokes, with a long bridge and dock cranes, and open sea beyond it to a hazy horizon. White cumulus stacks up in a pale sky. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Portugal beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Real depth in the view. Hedge garden in the foreground, city on the far bank, open sea behind it.
- The hilltop basilica. Dome, twin towers and rose window drawn in full rather than sketched in.
- Green, white and blue. A restrained palette that stays quiet on a wall.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Fresh and green, with enough white in the building to keep it bright. It works on white, pale grey and soft green walls, and next to light oak, linen and ceramic. A white frame keeps the basilica clean, while walnut warms the roof tiles below it. It hangs well beside the Tavira or Guimarães prints for a Portuguese group, and with Kylemore Abbey if you like buildings set into green hillsides.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the building at the top of the hill? The domed hilltop basilica above the town, drawn with its twin towers, rose window and entrance steps.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
