A Thousand Islands National Park poster from a granite lookout: bare pale rock in the foreground, a leaning pine reaching in from the left, and the St Lawrence spread out below with dozens of wooded islands scattered across it to the horizon.
About the artwork
A print about scale and repetition. The islands are drawn individually — each one a low dome of pine and hardwood on its own rim of pale rock — and they get smaller and hazier the further back they sit, so the river reads as genuinely vast. The water is a soft mid-blue with the current showing in long pale streaks, and the foreground granite is worked in flat sheets with the glacial scouring lines still visible across it. The pine that frames the left edge is the only dark mass in the picture, and it holds the whole composition together.
The layout is the Canadian park service sheet used across this series, with the type in dark brown: cream border, small dark capitals along the top reading ONTARIO · 44.35° N, 75.95° W · EST 1904, and THOUSAND ISLANDS at the foot over NATIONAL PARK, with the Parks Canada wordmark and beaver roundel. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The view that explains the name. You can count twenty islands in the print before they blur into the distance.
- Canada's oldest national park east of the Rockies. Established 1904, printed on the sheet with its coordinates.
- Framed by a single pine. A classic Ontario device, and the reason the composition has depth rather than being a flat panorama.
- Cottage country. A print for anyone whose summers happen on this river.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Pale rock and soft blue keep this print light, so it works in a room that already has a lot going on. Cream and warm white walls suit it; natural oak frames match the granite. It is a natural cottage or lake-house print, and it hangs well beside Georgian Bay Islands — same Shield rock, same pines, different water.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Are there really a thousand islands? More than that — the archipelago runs to over 1,800 islands along the St Lawrence. The banner along the top gives the park's coordinates and its founding year, 1904.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
