A Palouse rolling hills poster looking out over the wheat country of eastern Washington. Loess dunes roll away in soft green and gold bands, cut by contour lines and the pale stubble of harvested strips. A red barn with a grey silo sits in the middle distance behind a fence line, dark conifers punctuate the near slopes, and a gravel farm road climbs out of the bottom of the frame beside a narrow creek.
About the artwork
Illustrative and layered, built from long overlapping ridge shapes with fine directional hatching that follows the plough lines - the hills read as fabric rather than flat colour. The palette runs through olive, moss and yellow-green in the standing crop, wheat and straw in the cut fields, chocolate brown in bare soil, near-black green on the firs, and barn red as the single strong accent. Above the fields, layered blue ridges recede to a grey-blue sky under cream cumulus. Type sits at the base of the print: THE PALOUSE in white capitals over WASHINGTON. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Farmland treated as landscape. The hills are the subject, and the print takes them seriously instead of turning them into a backdrop.
- One red accent. The barn is the only saturated colour in an otherwise green and gold picture, which is what pulls the eye through the composition.
- Texture at every distance. Plough hatching in the foreground, field blocks in the middle, flat blue ridges behind.
- A very specific corner of Washington. Wheat country east of the Cascades, nothing like the coast or the alpine parks.
Sizes and materials
- Paper - archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas - stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas - solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Olive, straw and soft blue make this one of the calmest prints in the collection, and it settles easily on cream, oatmeal or clay walls. It is a natural fit for a kitchen or dining wall, where the barn red picks up terracotta and stoneware. On a teak sideboard beside dried grasses, like the bedroom in the photographs above, the natural oak frame keeps the whole thing warm; a white frame makes the field colours look cleaner and cooler.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The hill banding needs room to breathe. 18" x 24" for a hallway or kitchen, 24" x 36" or larger over a sideboard or dining table.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives stretched in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, with hanging hardware fitted.
What does the poster say? The caption reads THE PALOUSE in white capitals with WASHINGTON centred underneath.
Is this the waterfall one? No. This print is the farmed hill country of the Palouse region - wheat fields, barns and gravel roads. Palouse Falls State Park, the basalt canyon waterfall on the Palouse River, is a separate print in this shop under its own name.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
