A Thacher State Park poster looking north along the Helderberg Escarpment west of Albany. A pale grey limestone cliff runs away from the foreground in a long curve, dropping several hundred feet to dense woods, and beyond it the Hudson and Mohawk valley opens out as a patchwork of green and gold fields, small farms and hedgerows. A red-tailed hawk rides the updraft off the rim and blue ridges close the far horizon.
About the artwork
Detailed illustrative work with crisply cut shapes: each limestone bed on the cliff face is a separate band, and the valley is built from dozens of small field blocks. The palette moves from teal sky and cream cumulus, through grey and bone on the rock, into deep forest green, then out to olive, wheat and tan across the farmland, with rust and orange on the early-turning shrubs at the cliff edge. Overhanging branches and a lone pine frame the top left. Type sits at the base of the print: THACHER in white capitals over STATE PARK - NEW YORK. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- An honest sense of height. The cliff drops away from the near edge, so the print reads as a view taken standing on the rim rather than from the air.
- Rock and farmland in one frame. Few landscapes put a limestone escarpment directly above working fields; that contrast is the whole picture.
- Quiet colour. Bone grey and olive with a few rust accents, so it sits in a room without dominating it.
- Recognisable to anyone who walked the rim. The overlook line and the Indian Ladder cliff below it are the park's signature.
Sizes and materials
- Paper - archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas - stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas - solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Grey stone, forest green and wheat make this an easy print for a study or home office, and it suits warm white, greige and soft sage walls. On a desk wall it gives depth without pulling attention off the work. The oak frame on the stone table in the photographs above picks up the bone tones in the cliff; a white frame keeps the whole thing airy in a small room.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The valley detail is fine, so 18" x 24" is a good floor. At 24" x 36" the individual farms and field edges stay readable from a few feet away.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives stretched in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The caption reads THACHER across the bottom, with STATE PARK - NEW YORK under it in smaller spaced capitals.
How is this different from the other New York state park prints here? Thacher is the limestone escarpment above the Albany farm valley. Storm King and Hudson Highlands are the granite river gorge further south, Bear Mountain the wooded summit and tower, Harriman the inland lakes, Minnewaska the white quartz conglomerate cliffs and sky lakes, and Moreau Lake the Adirondack foothill shoreline.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
