A Terra Nova National Park poster from a rock lookout: a long saltwater sound running inland between dark forested headlands, pale granite slabs and low spruce in the foreground, and a bank of cumulus stacked over the far shore.
About the artwork
A print built from three materials — rock, spruce and water — and very little else. The foreground slabs take up the lower right corner and are drawn with their fracture lines and lichen, giving the viewer somewhere to stand; the spruce are handled as narrow dark spires, individually at the front and compressed into texture along the ridges. The sound itself is painted in graded blues with the wind showing as pale streaks across the surface, and it narrows convincingly toward the head of the inlet. The far hills fade into blue-grey.
The layout is the Canadian park service sheet used across this series, with the type in grey-green: cream border, small dark capitals along the top reading NEWFOUNDLAND & LABRADOR · 48.53° N, 53.96° W · EST 1957, and TERRA NOVA at the foot over NATIONAL PARK, with the Parks Canada wordmark and beaver roundel. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Newfoundland's first national park. Established 1957, seven years after the province joined Canada.
- Boreal forest meets the sea. The sounds here run miles inland, which is what makes the geography unusual.
- Restrained colour. Green, grey and blue only — it will not fight anything else on the wall.
- A view you have to walk to. The lookout foreground makes it clear this is a hiker's picture.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Muted green and blue make this an easy print to live with — it suits sage, greige and warm white, and it does not demand a feature wall. Natural oak frames match the rock. It is the quietest of the three Atlantic Canada sheets and hangs well between the busier Gros Morne and Cape Breton prints.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Is that a lake or the sea? The sea — Terra Nova sits on Bonavista Bay, where long saltwater sounds reach far inland. The banner along the top gives the park's coordinates and its founding year, 1957.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
