A Tavira travel poster taken from the middle of the water: the old arched bridge at the left, a bank of low white houses under terracotta pantiles behind it, palms standing over the rooftops, and the whole lower half of the sheet given over to bright turquoise river with the sun scattered across it.
About the artwork
The composition is deliberately bottom-heavy. Water takes roughly two thirds of the sheet, drawn as horizontal ripple bands that shift from pale aquamarine at the near edge to deeper cyan under the far bank, with small white star-shaped flecks where the sun catches the surface. Directly beneath the town those ripples turn into soft vertical smears of apricot, rose and grey as the buildings come apart in the reflection. The bank itself is a thin, densely worked strip: a low stone bridge with round arches and their dark reflections, a quay wall, then flat-faced white houses with terracotta pantile roofs, one taller block carrying a small domed lantern, and a scatter of palms and dark cypress breaking the roofline. Above all of it the sky is a single flat cerulean with no cloud at all. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Portugal beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The water does the work. Two thirds of the print is river, which gives a town scene an unusual amount of quiet space.
- One flat cerulean sky. A single clean colour above a busy waterline, so the design reads from across a room.
- Algarve colour without the beach. Turquoise, whitewash and terracotta, set on a river rather than a coast.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The turquoise is cool and clean, so it settles easily into bathrooms, bedrooms and any room with white or pale grey walls, and it lifts a sand or soft clay wall without fighting it. Light oak and rattan suit the whitewash; a slim white frame keeps the water bright, while black adds contrast against the pale sky. It hangs comfortably beside the Guimarães or Sitges prints for an Iberian group, or next to Syros for another whitewashed waterline.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the bridge in the picture? The low stone bridge with round arches that crosses the river at the left of the town, drawn with its reflection directly beneath it.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
