A Taughannock Falls illustrated print of the single 215-foot drop at the head of the Finger Lakes gorge. One unbroken column of water leaves a notch in the rim and falls clear of the rock the whole way into a shallow green pool. Buff shale walls curve around it in an amphitheatre, a small wooden overlook deck with visitors on it stands on the right, and the creek runs out toward the viewer.
About the artwork
Painted with the layering left visible. The shale is drawn stratum by stratum, hundreds of thin horizontal beds in buff, grey and pale gold, with cool shadow washed into every recess and dark stains bleeding down the wall where seepage runs. The falling water is a pale ribbon of fine vertical strokes with mist gathering only at the base. Hemlocks in near-black green stack up both flanks, a few maples turn gold at the left, and cream cumulus rise into a deep blue sky. White type sits along the bottom: TAUGHANNOCK FALLS, then STATE PARK, a bullet, and NEW YORK. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- One clean drop. No tiers, no steps. The whole appeal of Taughannock is that the water falls free, and the print is composed around that.
- The deck gives the scale. Figures on the overlook show just how big the amphitheatre is.
- Stone as texture. The banded shale is the real subject of half the image and holds up to close looking.
- Quiet palette. Buff, sage and slate, with only the gold maples as an accent.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The buff and sage here are soft enough to hang in a bedroom without dominating it, and they sit easily against greige, stone and warm white. White framing keeps it airy; espresso picks up the dark hemlocks and gives it more weight, as in the console photograph above. It also pairs well with other Finger Lakes prints because the palette is deliberately restrained.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The composition is strongly vertical, so height helps. 16" x 24" suits a narrow wall between doors; 24" x 36" keeps the shale bedding and the figures on the deck readable.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives stretched in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
How does this differ from your other Taughannock Falls print? Two designs exist for this park. The other is a flat vector version made from clean blocks of colour with the place name across the top of the image. This is the painted one: stratum-by-stratum rock, softer mist, richer shadow, and the lettering set along the bottom edge instead.
What does the print say? TAUGHANNOCK FALLS in bold capitals, with STATE PARK and NEW YORK on a second line separated by a small bullet.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
