A Tahquamenon Falls Michigan poster of the Upper Falls in the Upper Peninsula, seen from the rocks downstream. The whole width of the river pours over one long sandstone lip in a sheet of root-beer coloured water, breaks white at the base, then spreads into a churning amber run that fills the lower half of the frame. A dense wall of spruce and pine closes the far bank.
About the artwork
Posterised illustration in the classic national-park screen-print manner, built from layered flat shapes with fine vertical striping across the falling water. The colour is unusual and true to the place: the river carries tannins from the cedar swamps upstream, so the water reads amber, caramel and burnt orange rather than blue, with cool slate greys in the wet foreground boulders and near-black greens in the conifer wall. Look for the white foam line where the sheet lands, the dark ledge on the right bank, and the pale evening blue in the strip of sky. Typography is white sans-serif reading TAHQUAMENON FALLS across the top with MICHIGAN centred below. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Amber water, not blue — the tannin-stained river gives this print a warmth few waterfall prints have.
- The full width of the Upper Falls — the horizontal lip runs edge to edge, so the image reads instantly.
- Upper Peninsula subject — a Michigan landmark well away from the lakeshore and Detroit views.
- Warm and cool in one frame — caramel water against black-green pine holds attention.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The caramel and amber run of water is warm enough to carry a room on its own, and it is a natural fit for the terracotta wall in the photographs above, where the two warms sit in the same family. On cream or clay walls a walnut or espresso frame deepens the pine greens; against white, a black frame keeps the dark forest from floating. Works over a sofa or a dining sideboard.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The falls span the frame, so bigger pays off. Over a sofa or sideboard choose 24" x 36" or 30" x 40"; 18" x 24" suits a smaller wall or a gallery arrangement.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame, wired and ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The lettering reads TAHQUAMENON FALLS with MICHIGAN below. The site is Tahquamenon Falls State Park, near Paradise in the eastern Upper Peninsula.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
