A Suomenlinna poster taken from the granite ridge above the ramparts: a chain of grass-topped stone bastions stepping out along a low island, a slab path winding through the foreground, and open sea glittering on both sides.
About the artwork
The path does the storytelling. It starts at the bottom edge as a run of flat, sun-bleached rock slabs, curves left around a dark outcrop and climbs towards the fortifications, so the eye walks into the picture rather than scanning it. Either side, the ground is drawn in two greens — vivid spring green where the grass is short, dry gold where the long grass has burned off — laid over grey granite with black shadow in the clefts. The bastions themselves are wedge-shaped earthworks, stone-faced along their outer walls with turf pulled right over the top, angled outwards in the old star-fort way. A small building and a low tower sit at the far end. To the right, deep blue water breaks white against the rocks and then dissolves into a wide band of sun sparkle; islands sit low on the horizon under a clear blue sky. Titled Suomenlinna in wide-tracked uppercase with Finland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Green over stone. Turf-covered ramparts give the print a colour no other fortress view has.
- Sun on water. A broad glitter path across the sea keeps the right side alive.
- A path you can follow. The rock slabs lead you in from the bottom corner.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The strong greens want daylight and plants around them, so a sunroom, garden room or a bright kitchen wall suits it. Plain white and pale grey walls keep the grass clean; a soft olive wall makes the sea look deeper. It sits happily among terracotta pots, cane and light linen. Light oak or a pale maple frame stays in the same key as the dry grass, while white keeps everything crisp. Try it beside the Tórshavn print for a north Atlantic pair.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What are the green mounds? They are the fortress bastions — stone walls built up and then covered over with turf, which is why the defences look like grassy ridges.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
