This Stone Town watercolor print shows a large dhow sail in front of the Old Fort of Zanzibar, with the twin spires of St Joseph's Cathedral rising over the seafront rooftops. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Stone Town, not an exact view of the town.
About the artwork
The triangular sail is washed in pale cream with gray shading, leaving the bright edges as bare paper. Shallow water moves from turquoise to deep blue with white ripple strokes, and the fort's walls are layered in sandy gold-brown. Sea turquoise, coral-stone white and sandy fort walls set the palette, with terracotta roofs and bright kanga cloth as accents. The dhow sits left of center with its sail reaching into the upper third, the fort's battlements run behind it, and white houses with carved balconies stand on the right. The scene has the clear sun of the dry season. "STONE TOWN" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Big dhow sail. The triangular sail fills the left side of the print.
- Kids jumping in. Children leap from the seawall into the clear water.
- Ngalawa canoe. An outrigger canoe rests in the shallow water up front.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Turquoise and sandy tones fit a coastal living room, a bathroom or a bright entryway. A thoughtful gift for a Zanzibar honeymoon or a traveler who loves the Swahili coast.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Stone Town? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the Stone Town seafront, painted loosely to bring the fort, cathedral spires and boats together.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "STONE TOWN," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
