A Stirling Castle poster seen from the rock below it: pale gables and tall chimneys perched on the very lip of a rose-coloured cliff, a slope of gorse and broken stone dropping away in front, and the flat farmland of the carse running west to blue hills.
About the artwork
The whole print hangs on one diagonal, from the boulders in the bottom right corner up to the castle in the top right. The rock is the best passage in it: faceted rather than blended, cut into flat planes of apricot, dusty rose and dove grey with hard shadow edges, so it looks quarried rather than shaded. The castle sits directly on that edge — harled walls in cream and buff, crow-stepped gables, chimney stacks, rows of small windows, and a lower curtain wall stepping down the crag. A dark mass of gorse and scrub fills the middle, its lit tips picked out in yellow-green. To the left the plain opens out as a quilt of olive, straw and green fields with hedge lines running into haze, and the hills beyond are flat pale blue silhouettes with one clear pointed summit. The sky is a clean gradient with no cloud at all. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Scotland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A castle on the edge of a cliff. No approach, no gate, no crowd — just the drop underneath it.
- Faceted rock. The crag is built from flat planes of colour, which is what gives the print its graphic edge.
- Rose and deep green against a flat plain. Warm foreground, cool distance, and a lot of air in between.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Warmer than most Scottish prints — the rose in the rock stops it going cold — so it holds its own in a room with some weight to it. Cream, putty and terracotta walls suit it, as do leather, brass and dark timber in a study or a sitting room. An espresso or walnut frame follows the sandstone; natural oak also works if the room is pale. It hangs well beside the Dunnottar Castle print as a Scottish clifftop pair.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the flat land on the left? The wide plain west of the castle rock, drawn as a quilt of farm fields fading into haze, with a line of hills and one pointed summit painted as flat blue shapes behind it.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
