A St Andrews travel poster from the dunes: marram grass bent by the wind across the whole foreground, mown links running down to a long curve of sand, and the town lying in profile beyond it under a sky of fine wind-drawn streaks.
About the artwork
More than half the image is grass, and it is drawn blade by blade — gold, amber and bleached straw laid over dark green, all leaning the same way, thickest and sharpest at the bottom edge where you would be standing. Behind it the mown ground reads in three greens with soft hollows and bunker shadows, then a pale band of beach with two or three lines of white surf, then the sea in two flat blues. The town is a low terrace of grey and honey rooftops with dormers and chimneys, a tall square tower standing clear above it, and out on the point at the left the roofless gables of the ruined cathedral with a slim tower beside them. The sky is flat blue, ruled across with long fine cirrus streaks that pull the eye out to sea. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Scotland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Grass in front, town in the distance. The depth comes from three clean bands rather than from haze.
- Marram drawn blade by blade. Close up the whole foreground is thousands of separate strokes.
- Gold against emerald and blue. Warm and cool in equal measure, which is why it carries a wall.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Bright and windy, with more energy than most coastal prints, so give it a room with daylight — a sunroom, a stair landing, a study. White, pale blue and stone walls suit it, alongside light wood, wool and woven baskets. Light oak keeps the grass warm; a black frame sharpens the sea and the rooftops. It hangs well with the Glenfinnan Viaduct or Eilean Donan prints as a Scottish group of three.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Is the golf course in the picture? Yes. The mown links and rough run across the middle of the print from the dunes down to the beach, though no flags or players are drawn anywhere on it.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
