A South Bend Indiana poster down at the water line, where the St Joseph River breaks into whitewater over a stepped weir, red brick mill buildings with tall window rows stand along the far bank, and big cut limestone blocks form the ledge in the foreground.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes with a lot of hard-edged layering in the rapids, where white foam is cut against teal, slate and deep petrol blue. The palette is cool overall, then broken by warm accents: oxide red and rust brown on the mill facades, sandy cream on the limestone, and a row of rusted orange steel drums set into the weir. The sky is a muted pale teal, bare early-spring branches sit behind the rooftops, and the buildings are given crisp cornices, stone bases and shadowed windows. Printed across the top in white capitals: SOUTH BEND, with INDIANA below. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The river, not a postcard skyline — this is the working stretch of the St Joseph where the water actually drops and churns through town.
- Industrial brick against cold water — rust red and petrol teal is the whole reason this print holds a wall.
- Foam drawn in flat planes — the rapids are cut from stacked shapes, which keeps them sharp instead of blurry.
- Detail worth standing close to — the weir drums, stone courses and window grids reward a second look.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The teal water and brick red make this a good fit for a study or a den rather than a pale bedroom. It looks right against the sage green wall in the photographs above, and equally at home on deep blue-grey or warm white. An espresso or walnut frame pushes the industrial side; a natural oak frame lifts the limestone and keeps it lighter.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The foam detail is dense, so 24" x 36" gives it room and lets the mill windows read. In a hallway or above a desk, 16" x 24" still holds the composition well.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship rolled and unframed for your own frame. Matte canvas comes stretched and ready to hang, and framed canvas adds a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What is in the scene? The St Joseph River running through downtown South Bend over a stepped weir, with the old brick mill buildings on the bank behind it. No campus buildings appear in this print.
What does the poster say? SOUTH BEND in large white capitals, with INDIANA set smaller underneath.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
