A Sonoma Coast State Park poster that looks north along the Northern California shoreline: two tall sea stacks standing offshore in turquoise water, a curved tan pocket beach, long lines of white surf rolling in, and a golden bluff of dry grass and dark wave-cut rock in the foreground. A small railed overlook sits on the headland at the upper left, the kind of pullout Highway 1 is built from.
About the artwork
Painted in a detailed illustrative style with soft airbrushed shading and modelled rock faces rather than flat vector shapes. The palette runs teal and jade through the water, cream and white in the foam and the towering cumulus stack, tan and ochre across the sand and dry coastal grass, and cool grey-brown in the eroded headland. Sanderlings dot the wet sand along the bottom edge and a dark cypress line marks the ridge at far left. Type sits at the base of the print: SONOMA COAST in heavy white capitals above STATE PARK - CALIFORNIA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A real stretch of shoreline. Sea stacks, a pocket beach and a bluff-top overlook - the exact combination that makes the Sonoma coast look unlike anywhere further south.
- Cool water, warm land. Teal surf against ochre grass gives the print two temperatures at once, so it reads well on both cool and warm wall colours.
- Detail that rewards a close look. Shorebirds on the wet sand, spray behind the outer stacks, and individual grass tufts on the headland.
- Made for people who drove Highway 1. A specific memory of Bodega Bay and Jenner rather than a generic beach scene.
Sizes and materials
- Paper - archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas - stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas - solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The teal and ochre pairing sits comfortably on warm white, oatmeal or pale sage walls, and the cool water keeps it from feeling heavy in a small room. It suits a bedroom or a hallway where the eye passes it at close range and picks up the shorebirds. Over a cream sofa or on a teak sideboard, like the rooms in the photographs above, the oak frame picks up the dry-grass tones on the headland.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? For a bedroom or hallway 18" x 24" holds the scene well. Above a sofa or a wide sideboard, step up to 24" x 36" so the sea stacks keep their scale.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives stretched in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, with hanging hardware fitted.
What does the poster say? The printed caption reads SONOMA COAST across the bottom, with STATE PARK - CALIFORNIA underneath in smaller spaced capitals.
How is this different from the other Northern California coast prints here? Sonoma Coast State Park is the sea-stack and pocket-beach view. Salt Point is the honeycombed tafoni sandstone, Bowling Ball Beach the round concretions, Shark Fin Cove the single fin-shaped rock, Glass Beach the polished sea glass, and Russian Gulch the forested creek canyon and its bridge.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
