A Snoqualmie Falls illustrated print seen from downstream in the gorge. The river drops 270 feet in one white column split by a rock rib, throwing spray across an ochre cliff wall, then settles into a wide green plunge pool that runs toward the viewer. A timber lodge sits on the rim at the left, a railed observation deck marks the brink, and Cascade foothills stack up behind under fir forest.
About the artwork
Painted rather than flat-blocked, with an unusual amount of information in the rock: the left cliff is drawn in hundreds of small ledges and fissures, each with its own shadow, and moss is dropped into the ledges in yellow-green. The falling water is stroked in fine vertical lines and dissolves into soft grey mist at the base. Firs on the right are rendered branch by branch in near-black green, and the river below is banded pale jade into steel blue. Ochre, olive and slate carry the whole image under cream cumulus. The title runs along the bottom in white: SNOQUALMIE FALLS above a letterspaced WASHINGTON. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Buildings give it scale. The lodge and the viewing deck on the rim show exactly how big the drop is, which a bare waterfall study cannot.
- The gorge, not just the falls. The river fills the lower third, so the print has somewhere for the eye to rest.
- Real Cascade texture. Ledged rock, moss, mist and dense fir are all drawn in, not suggested.
- Deep green and ochre. A warmer, earthier palette than most Pacific Northwest prints.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Ochre cliff and dark fir make this one sit well in rooms with wood and wool in them: olive, mushroom, warm grey. Natural or espresso framing ties into the rock, as in the reading corner photograph above. On a white wall the mist at the base of the falls stays bright and keeps the image from feeling heavy.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? There is fine detail in the cliff face, so it repays size. 18" x 24" is enough beside a desk; at 24" x 36" the ledges, the deck railing and the individual firs all stay distinct.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives stretched in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What is the difference between your two Snoqualmie Falls prints? They are two separate drawings of the same place. The other is flat vector work: simplified colour shapes, no brush texture, and the place name across the top of the image. This one is the painted treatment, with detailed rock, soft mist, layered forest and the lettering along the bottom edge.
What does the print say? SNOQUALMIE FALLS in bold capitals at the base, with WASHINGTON spaced out beneath.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
