About the artwork

Painted rather than flat-blocked, with an unusual amount of information in the rock: the left cliff is drawn in hundreds of small ledges and fissures, each with its own shadow, and moss is dropped into the ledges in yellow-green. The falling water is stroked in fine vertical lines and dissolves into soft grey mist at the base. Firs on the right are rendered branch by branch in near-black green, and the river below is banded pale jade into steel blue. Ochre, olive and slate carry the whole image under cream cumulus.
