A Smith Rock State Park poster looking up the canyon from the riverbank. A sheer wall of rust-coloured tuff fills the right of the frame, split top to bottom by narrow vertical columns, with two small climbers picked out on the face and the skyline. The Crooked River swings through the bottom of the picture in a slow blue curve, past dry bunchgrass and low sage.
About the artwork
Detailed line-led illustration: the cliff is drawn as hundreds of vertical strokes that follow the real columnar jointing in the ash rock, so the wall reads as texture rather than as a block of colour. Colour runs rust, brick and umber in the crag, warm buff in the mid-distance walls, dry gold and straw in the grass, and blue-grey in the sage clumps. Junipers and dark ponderosa green fill the middle ground, a pine bough hangs into the top-left corner, and a small snow-capped Cascade summit shows far off on the left under piled cream cumulus. Caption in white capitals over the grass: SMITH ROCK, STATE PARK, OREGON. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Climbers in the picture — two tiny figures on the wall set the scale of the crag, and they are the reason the cliff looks as tall as it actually is.
- River and rock together — the Crooked River bend gives the composition a lead-in line instead of a flat foreground.
- High desert, not alpine — sage, bunchgrass and juniper make it read as central Oregon rather than as a generic mountain scene.
- A gift that lands — for anyone who has climbed here, the columnar face on the right is instantly recognisable.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Rust, straw gold and sage make this an easy fit for a room with leather, wool or raw wood in it. It works particularly well in a home office or above a desk, where the vertical cliff gives the wall some height. The teak sideboard and the stone-topped table in the photographs above both sit comfortably under it. Espresso or natural framing echoes the rock; white framing lightens it for a smaller room.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The climbers are small, so go to 18" x 27" or larger if you want them to read from across the room. 12" x 18" is fine at close range beside a desk.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame, wired and ready to hang.
What is the rock made of? The park's walls are welded volcanic tuff and ash, which is why they fracture into the narrow vertical columns you can see running the full height of the face on the right.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
