A Sirmilik National Park poster across a Baffin Island channel: a glacier front standing in a pale blue wall between dark jagged peaks, icebergs and broken floes scattered on deep water, bare rock in the near foreground, and a pod of narwhals surfacing at the water's edge with their tusks out.
About the artwork
The picture is stacked in three flat layers — dark peaks, white ice front, dark water — and the drawing lives in the middle one. The glacier face is hatched vertically and then broken with pale blue seracs so it reads as a cliff of ice rather than a snowfield, and the bergs in front of it are drawn as hard-edged blocks with their shadows carried underwater. The narwhals are the surprise: three animals low in the left of the picture, dark mottled backs and long straight tusks, small enough that you find them second rather than first.
The sheet is the Canadian park service layout used across this series, with the type in glacier blue: cream border, small dark capitals along the top reading NUNAVUT · 72.98° N, 81.13° W · EST 2001, and SIRMILIK at the foot over NATIONAL PARK, with the Parks Canada wordmark and beaver roundel below. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Narwhals, not whales in general. Sirmilik sits on the migration route through Lancaster Sound, and the tusked animals in the water are drawn accordingly.
- The name means "place of glaciers". Sirmilik takes in the ice caps of Bylot Island and Borden Peninsula, and the sheet leads with the ice front.
- Three-layer composition. Dark peaks, white ice and deep water in clean horizontal bands — graphic enough to hold a wall from across a room.
- Hangs as a set. Every print in the Canada parks series shares the same border, banner and typographic foot, so a row of them lines up exactly.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The palette is cold and narrow, which makes it restful rather than dramatic — good in a bedroom or a quiet study. White, pale grey and dusty blue walls all work; warm cream walls put up a slight fight. Black frames match the peaks; natural oak lifts the cream border. It groups with Quttinirpaaq, Qausuittuq and Torngat Mountains for a northern wall.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What are the animals in the water? Narwhals — the tusked Arctic whale that migrates through these channels in summer. The banner along the top gives the park's coordinates and its founding year, 2001.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
