A Sintra travel poster of the Pena Palace: red and yellow wings and a green dome standing on a wooded summit, the forest falling away in every direction, and a sea of low cloud filling the whole valley behind it.
About the artwork
An unusual structure — the subject is small and the setting is enormous. The palace occupies perhaps a fifth of the frame; the rest is forest below and cloud beyond, which is exactly how the place reads in person. That imbalance is the point. Colour is deployed the same way: the palace carries the only saturated red, marigold and copper-green in the image, and everything around it is worked in layered greens, grey-blue cloud and pale silver haze. The forest canopy is drawn as thousands of small stippled marks rather than blocked shapes, which is where most of the detail lives. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Portugal beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A small bright subject in a huge quiet field. Rare in travel art, and it gives the print unusual calm.
- Green with a red heart. The palace reads as a single warm point in an otherwise cool image — the eye goes straight to it.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The dominant greens make it easy to live with and it works in rooms where a brighter print would be too much — a bedroom, a reading corner, a landing. White, sage and warm grey walls all suit it. Because the palace is small, this print needs size to work: below 16" x 24" the building loses its detail and the image reads as forest.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? 16" x 24" minimum so the palace holds its detail. 24" x 36" or larger above a bed or sofa.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Is the cloud real? Yes. Sintra's hills sit high enough that low cloud regularly fills the valley below the palace.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
