A Shark Fin Cove poster looking down into the cove from the bluff above. The triangular sea stack that gives the beach its name stands just off the sand, tilted forward like a fin, its flat top carrying a cap of green. A crescent of gold sand curves away below, turquoise water lays down in bands, and a tan cliff wall with a single wind-bent cypress rises on the right.
About the artwork
Painted illustration with strong modelling in the rock — the sandstone is broken into blocky courses and vertical fractures so the fin reads as stone rather than as a silhouette. Colour sits in layers: deep marine blue offshore, turquoise and pale jade in the shallows, white foam along the swash line, then warm gold sand and honey-coloured cliff. Coastal scrub in dusty olive fills the two bottom corners, cliffs step back into haze on the left, and cream cumulus banks against a saturated blue sky with gulls in fine white strokes. Caption in white capitals over the sand: SHARK FIN COVE above CALIFORNIA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- One unmistakable shape — the fin is a silhouette people recognise instantly, which makes this an easy print to gift to anyone who has driven Highway 1 north of Santa Cruz.
- A viewpoint from above — looking down from the bluff shows the whole curve of the cove, not the flat horizon most beach prints settle for.
- Bright without being loud — the turquoise band is vivid, but the gold sand and olive scrub keep the overall temperature warm.
- Layered water — the sea is built in five or six distinct tones from deep blue to almost clear at the shoreline.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Gold sand and turquoise are a summer pairing, so this one lifts a room that is otherwise all neutrals — white, sand or pale blue-grey walls all work. It suits a bathroom, a bedroom or a bright corner like the twin-window room with the wicker chair in the photographs above. White framing keeps it crisp and beachy; natural oak warms the sand tones.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The fin holds the composition even small, so 8" x 12" or 12" x 18" works in a gallery wall. At 24" x 36" the banding in the water and the courses in the sandstone become the point.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame, wired and ready to hang.
Where is Shark Fin Cove? It sits on the San Mateo–Santa Cruz coastline near Davenport, reached by a short unmarked trail down from the highway bluff — which is roughly the angle this print takes.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
