A Scala dei Turchi poster reduced to two colours and a lot of patience: broad slabs of soft white rock stepping down into flat turquoise water on the left, a channel of still sea running up the middle, and the pale marl headland sitting bright against the sky at the top right.
About the artwork
This is the quietest print in the set and the most deliberate. The whole thing works on a single diagonal — the stepped terraces enter bottom left and lead the eye up to the cliff — and the palette is held to cream, chalk white and three or four values of blue-green. The rock is drawn as flat planes with hard edges, each ledge given one light face and one cooler shadow face, so the steps read as sculpture rather than texture, and the worn lip of every slab is left slightly rounded where the sea has been working on it. The water is the opposite treatment: long horizontal ribbons of colour, a few white flecks of surface glitter, and a soft mirrored version of the cliff lying across the channel. The headland at the back is stratified in fine parallel lines, with a few loose boulders at its base and a low turquoise bay opening to the left of it. Sky is a plain wash, warm at the horizon, cooler above. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Italy beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A near-monochrome seascape. Cream and blue-green only, which makes it restful on a busy wall.
- Hard-edged rock. The terraces are painted as flat planes, closer to a screenprint than a photograph.
- Reflection down the middle. The still channel doubles the cliff and holds the composition together.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Low contrast and cool, so it works where you want the wall to stay calm: a bedroom, a bathroom, the end of a landing. It sits well on white, pale grey and chalky blue walls, and beside linen, limewash and pale ash or birch furniture. A white or very pale oak frame keeps the whole thing airy; black is the sharper choice if the room already has dark metal in it. Hang it with another Sicilian or southern Italian view for a two-print run.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is the white rock made of? It is marl, a soft chalky limestone that weathers into wide shallow steps, which is why the shoreline in the print looks like a staircase.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
