A savonlinna travel poster across open lake water to the castle on its rock island: three round towers with grey conical roofs, a long hall block behind them, and pine forest closing the shoreline on both sides.
About the artwork
The lake takes two thirds of the frame and it is worked much harder than the buildings. Directly under the island the water holds a soft, broken reflection of the towers in grey and tan; further down it turns to cut bands of ripple in cobalt and mid-blue; and in the lower left there is a scatter of small cream starbursts where the low sun catches individual wavelets, drawn as actual little stars rather than blurred highlights. The castle itself is quiet by comparison — warm grey and sand masonry, a few small windows, a pitched roof with a row of openings, curtain walls dropping straight onto bare rock at the waterline. Dark spruce and pine crowd the island and run away in a low band across the whole background, with a paler treeline behind. The sky is a plain, light blue with nothing in it. The bottom left corner is a shelf of blue-black rock with cream edges, close enough that you feel you are standing on it. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Finland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Sparkles drawn as stars. A small decision that gives the water its whole character.
- Strong, clean blue. More saturated than most lake prints, so it holds a pale wall.
- A castle without the drama. Sitting low on its rock, matter-of-fact rather than heroic.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The bright blue is cheerful and holds up in cool north light, which makes it a good bathroom, laundry or lake-house bedroom print. White, pale grey and soft sand walls let the water stay vivid; a mid-blue wall makes it feel almost submerged. Pale oak, white or a slim silver frame all work, and pine furniture is the obvious partner. It pairs naturally with the Porvoo print, one calm and red, one bright and blue.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Why does the water look starry? Those cream starbursts are low sun catching individual ripples, drawn as small radiating shapes instead of soft glare.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
