A Salisbury Cathedral poster seen across the water meadows: the spire rising clean out of a line of trees and rooftops, a stream winding through long summer grass in the foreground, and leaves hanging into both top corners.
About the artwork
This is the view painters keep returning to, and the design keeps it simple. A stream enters at the bottom edge, doubles back twice through the meadow and narrows as it goes, which walks you straight to the cathedral. The grass is built from horizontal strokes in a dozen greens — olive where it is dry, yellow where the sun sits on it, blue-green in the wet channels — with rushes and reeds drawn individually at the near bank. The cathedral is pale grey stone: the spire tapering past small openings and crockets, then the nave, the buttresses, the big traceried windows and the low roofline of the close, with brick houses and dark trees on either side. Foliage frames the sky, which is flat and cloudless. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with England beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A spire that sets the scale. It is the only vertical in the picture, and everything else lies flat beneath it.
- The stream does the leading. Its double bend is what makes the composition work.
- Meadow greens. Warm and cool grass in the same field, so it never reads as a flat block of colour.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Soft, green and thoroughly English, which makes it easy to place — a landing, a dining room, a bedroom with linen and pale walls. It suits sage, cream and warm white paint, and sits well beside oak, cane and old brass. A limed or natural oak frame keeps it gentle; a thin black frame gives the spire more edge. It hangs well with the other cathedral and countryside designs, or beside a second English view as a pair.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What wording is printed on the poster? The design reads SALISBURY above ENGLAND; the cathedral and its water meadows are the subject of the view.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
