A saint sophia kyiv poster looking straight up the cobbled avenue at the cathedral: the white bell tower rising dead centre under a gold dome, a cluster of smaller gold domes behind it, and low sun scattering light across the stones underfoot.
About the artwork
Two things carry this one. The first is the sky, a deep saturated blue with no cloud in it at all, which throws the white and gold of the building forward hard. The second is the ground: the entire lower half is setts and cobbles, drawn stone by stone in blue-grey and then broken up by irregular warm patches where sunlight comes through the trees, so the pavement reads as dappled rather than paved. The bell tower is stacked in baroque tiers, cream white with pale blue and white relief panels, a round clock face, green-blue trim on the cornices, and a gilded dome with a slender gold spire and cross above it. Behind and lower sit five or six onion domes on white drums, all gilded, each with its own cross. Mature trees line both sides in deep green with sunlit yellow-green edges, and pale classical buildings show between the trunks. The city name in wide-tracked uppercase with Ukraine beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The dappled pavement. Half the picture is light on stone, and it is the best part of it.
- Deep blue and gold. A strong, warm contrast that reads from the other end of a room.
- A one-point view. The avenue leads straight to the tower, so the composition never wanders.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The saturated blue can take a bold room. It looks its best against ink-blue, deep teal or forest-green walls, where the gold domes read almost like gilding on the wall itself; on plain white it becomes a clean graphic panel instead. Warm brass, dark walnut and a jewel-toned rug suit it. A gold or brass-finish frame is one of the few prints here that can carry it; natural oak is the safe alternative. Good above a dining sideboard, where evening lamplight warms the gold.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What words are printed on it? The lettering reads Kyiv, with Ukraine beneath — the city name rather than the cathedral's full name.
Which building is the tall one? The bell tower at the gate, standing in front of the cathedral itself, whose gold domes appear behind and to the left.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
