A Rakotzbrucke poster of the arch at Kromlau: a thin span of stone curving over still green water, its reflection closing the circle underneath, with basalt columns standing at both ends and beech woods pressing in from every side.
About the artwork
The whole design is built around one shape — the half circle of the bridge and the half circle it makes in the water, meeting to form a ring you read before you read anything else. Inside that ring the forest opens into a bright green tunnel; outside it the canopy goes almost black. The stonework is drawn block by block along the arch, and the two piers are stacked basalt, hexagonal shafts set upright like organ pipes, with a smaller cluster of them rising midstream. Colour is almost entirely green: teal in the sky, sage and olive in the far trees, moss and acid yellow in the ferns filling the bottom corners, and a deep bottle green in the water. Come close and the ripples are hand-drawn lines, each one bending the reflection slightly out of true. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Germany beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A circle of stone and water. The arch and its reflection lock together, and that is the whole picture.
- Basalt columns. Drawn as upright hexagonal shafts, the detail that marks this out as a garden built for effect.
- Green on green on green. A tonal print rather than a colourful one, which is why it settles a busy room.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
This one behaves like a woodland photograph: quiet, cool and easy to live with. It suits white, greige and clay walls, and does well in a hallway or a reading corner where you pass close enough to see the ferns. Warm oak and rattan pick up the moss tones; a black frame sharpens the water and turns the arch into a silhouette. Hang it with other forest and lake designs rather than city scenes, and leave a little space on either side so the ring is not crowded.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Is the circle real or an illusion? It is the bridge plus its reflection. The stone arch is only the top half; still water supplies the rest, which is why the scene is drawn on a windless day.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
