A porvoo travel poster of the old shore houses: a row of ox-blood red timber store buildings standing straight out of the river, doubled almost exactly in the still water below them.
About the artwork
The palette is close to two colours. Red, in perhaps six shades from bright vermilion on the sunlit gable ends to a deep maroon in shadow, and a cool green-teal that covers the sky, the water and the roofs. Everything else is a small cream note: window frames, doors, the loading hatches high in the gables. The houses are drawn individually, not repeated — different widths, different roof pitches, some with a single door, some with a run of small square panes — and they sit on a rough rubble quay wall right at the waterline, with a granite outcrop closing the row on the right. Behind them the ground rises into a green slope carrying more red barns, a few pale houses and trees, with two dark church spires breaking the skyline. A small red boat is moored at the left. The lower half is reflection: the same row again, softened and slightly wavering, dissolving into flat empty teal at the bottom edge. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Finland beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Two colours, done properly. Red and teal, and the restraint is what makes it work.
- A big area of calm water. The empty lower third gives the eye somewhere to rest.
- Nordic without being bleak. Warm timber red keeps it friendly rather than cold.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The graphic simplicity suits a Scandinavian room: white or pale grey walls, light birch and pine, wool throws and a lot of empty space around the frame. A thin white or pale oak frame is the honest choice; black works too but makes it more severe. It is a good bathroom or entryway print because the palette survives cool daylight. Hang it with the Savonlinna print for a Finnish water pair.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What are the red buildings? They are the old riverside store houses that once held goods for the ships, kept in their traditional red ochre paint.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
