A Portland Oregon travel poster taken from the middle of the Willamette River. A single paddler in a yellow kayak cuts across the foreground, trailing a thin white wake. Behind, the steel lift bridge crosses to the red-brick warehouse blocks of Old Town, small white boats sit at the seawall moorings, and the forested West Hills stack up in flat green layers under a pale sky.
About the artwork
Flat vector illustration built from hard-edged shapes and a fine grain texture, in the mid-century travel poster tradition. The palette runs pale teal in the sky, deep spruce and sage in the hills, terracotta and brick red across the waterfront buildings, steel blue and slate in the water, with cream window rows and one hit of chrome yellow on the kayak. Details to look for: the rust-red truss deck of the bridge, the leaping-stag neon sign standing on a warehouse roof, the line of street trees along the seawall, and the flecks of light scattered on the river surface. The type is set in white letterspaced capitals reading PORTLAND above OREGON. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The city from the water — this is the wide river view of Portland, bridge, waterfront and hills together, rather than a single building.
- One warm accent — the yellow kayak gives a quiet teal and brick composition a clear focal point.
- Pacific Northwest colour — spruce greens and grey-blues that sit naturally in a room with plants and wood.
- For people who know the riverfront — the Steel Bridge silhouette, the stag sign and the Old Town brick are all recognisable at a glance.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The teal and spruce range settles well against sage, warm grey or off-white walls, and the brick reds pick up terracotta pots and walnut furniture. It works in a living room over a low console, or in a home office where the cool water tones keep the wall calm. In the sage room in the photographs above, the black frame sharpens the hill line; the oak frames lean into the warmer brick side of the palette.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a sofa or a sideboard, 24" x 36" holds the wall on its own. For a gallery wall or a narrow hallway, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24" reads better. Measure your frame opening first if you are buying paper.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship rolled and unframed. Matte canvas arrives stretched and ready to hang, and the framed canvas option adds a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? The type reads PORTLAND across the top with OREGON beneath it, both in white capitals. No other text appears on the print.
Is there a version of a single Portland landmark? Yes. This design is the city-wide river and skyline view. The shop also has a separate Pittock Mansion design for anyone who wants that house and its hilltop view on its own.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
