A Peniscola travel poster seen from far down the sand: a blunt rock rising straight out of the sea carries a whitewashed town on its flanks and a squared-off castle on its summit, while a long curve of empty golden beach sweeps in from the bottom left with the surf running along it.
About the artwork
The design is unusually simple for how much it holds. Three shapes only — beach, sea, rock — meeting on two clean curves, and a flat cerulean sky above with nothing in it. The beach is drawn in warm amber and honey, its wet edge darker, and the foam is painted as thin repeating scallops of cream that follow the bay round and get finer as they retreat. The rock is the detailed part: bare tan and grey stone at the waterline, then a girdle of sandstone bastions and a rounded artillery turret, and above that the town stacked in small white cubes with pale terracotta roofs and shuttered windows, tightening as it climbs. At the very top the castle is a plain rectangular keep with a crenellated parapet, and a slender bell tower with a lantern top rises just left of it, with dark umbrella pines around its base. On the left a low seafront runs away with buildings and a stone breakwater. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Spain beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Three shapes, one strong image. Sand, sea and rock meet on two curves and nothing else competes.
- A town you can climb with your eye. White cubes tighten as they rise to the keep and the bell tower.
- Honey and cerulean. A warm sand foreground against a flat blue sky, with no third colour to muddy it.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Wide, calm and horizontal in feeling despite the portrait format, which makes it a good print above a bed or a low bench where you want quiet. The honey sand suits oatmeal, chalk and pale terracotta walls, and sits well with linen, cane and bleached wood. Natural oak framing echoes the beach; white keeps it beachy and light. It works beside the Cádiz print if you want two Spanish sea towns that both put stone walls against the water, one Mediterranean and calm, the other Atlantic and rough.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Is the town on an island? It reads almost like one. The rock is joined to the shore by a low neck of land, which you can see on the left where the seafront and breakwater run off the edge of the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
