A Palouse Falls poster seen from the grassy rim above the canyon. One narrow column of water drops clear off a dark basalt lip into a circular plunge pool, the river slides out to the right between sheer columned walls, and dry bunchgrass leans in across the whole foreground. Beyond the gorge the scablands open out flat and sunlit to the horizon.
About the artwork
Hard-edged vector shapes built from stacked flat tones, with the grass drawn as hundreds of individual blades rather than a mass. Two temperatures run against each other: hot wheat, amber and burnt orange in the foreground grass and on the sunlit plateau, and cold charcoal, slate and blue-grey in the shadowed basalt. The water is the brightest thing in the print, a pale ice blue in the falling column turning to strong turquoise and jade in the pool, with white swirl lines tracing the current. The columnar jointing of the cliffs is drawn as vertical facets, and the distant coulee walls step back in bands of tan and grey. The title is set in white capitals: PALOUSE FALLS, with WASHINGTON below. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Turquoise against charcoal — the plunge pool is the only cool bright colour, so the eye goes straight to it.
- Ice-age geology — the columnar basalt and the scabland plateau tell the story of the Missoula floods.
- Foreground grass — the leaning bunchgrass gives the drop a real edge and puts you on the rim.
- Eastern Washington, not the coast — a dry inland landscape for anyone tired of evergreen and fog.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Amber grass and charcoal rock make this a warm, earthy print despite the turquoise. It sits well on clay, oat, camel and warm white walls, and against the terracotta wall in the photographs above the foreground grass almost glows. Espresso or natural wood framing suits it; black framing pulls out the basalt. Pair it with leather, wool and brass rather than with anything cool and glassy.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The grass blades and the swirl lines in the pool are fine work. 18" x 24" reads well close up; 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" suits a large open wall where the canyon can breathe.
Does it come framed? Paper arrives rolled and unframed for your own frame. Matte canvas is stretched and ready to hang, and framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? PALOUSE FALLS in large white capitals, with WASHINGTON in smaller spaced capitals below. The words State Park are not printed on the artwork.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
