A Painted Ladies San Francisco poster drawn from the slope of Alamo Square Park. Six Victorian row houses stand shoulder to shoulder on Steiner Street in pink, teal, ochre, powder blue and cream, with the downtown towers stacked pale and hazy behind them and a wide sunlit lawn running down to the bottom edge.
About the artwork
Hard-edged vector shapes with flat colour and controlled shading, which lets the bay windows, gable trim and stair rails stay sharp against a soft, atmospheric skyline. The palette moves from warm to cool as it goes back: dusty pink, slate teal, mustard ochre, powder blue and buttermilk on the houses, charcoal slate roofs, deep green street trees, then the downtown blocks in chalky blue, grey and cream with one tapered glass tower on the right. The foreground lawn is mown in broad diagonal bands of yellow-green, with a few small figures sitting on the grass. The type reads SAN FRANCISCO in white capitals with CALIFORNIA letterspaced below. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The full row, not a crop — all six houses are in frame with their roofline, steps and bay windows intact.
- Two cities in one view — the Victorians in the middle ground and the modern skyline behind, which is exactly what makes this corner famous.
- Colour you can decorate around — pink, teal and ochre facades over a green lawn, cooled by the blue-grey skyline.
- A park bench point of view — the low angle from the Alamo Square lawn puts you where people actually stand.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Because the top half is cool blue and the bottom half is green, this print settles easily on a white, pale grey or sage wall. The sage room in the photographs above suits it particularly well, since the lawn and the street trees pick the wall colour up. Black framing sharpens the roofs and the skyline; natural oak softens the whole thing for a bedroom. It also pairs cleanly with other city prints in a grid, because the sky gives it a calm top edge.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The houses sit in a band across the middle, so width matters. 16" x 24" reads well in a hallway or on a gallery wall, while 24" x 36" over a sofa or bed keeps each facade distinct.
Does it come framed? Paper prints arrive rolled and unframed in standard US and A-series sizes. Framed canvas ships ready to hang in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
What does the poster say? The lettering is SAN FRANCISCO and CALIFORNIA. The houses shown are the Painted Ladies on Steiner Street, seen from Alamo Square Park, but neither name is printed on the artwork.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
