A Santa Barbara mission poster taken from the lawn below the Old Mission facade. Twin bell towers with terracotta domes flank a sandstone front painted in rose pink pilasters, the Santa Ynez ridges rise steeply behind, and a full rose garden fills the whole foreground in magenta, crimson, cream and apricot.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes with layered shading, drawn so the architecture stays geometric while the roses break into loose painterly clusters. The palette is warm stone against cool mountain: pale sandstone and cream walls, salmon and terracotta domes and roof tiles, dusty rose pilasters and pediment, deep teal-blue mountain slopes with sunlit ochre outcrops, and vivid magenta and scarlet roses across the bottom third. Look for the cross on the pediment, the arched belfry openings, the prickly pear and cactus bed along the terrace wall, the fan palms on both sides and the olive branch hanging into the top right corner. The type reads SANTA BARBARA in white capitals with CALIFORNIA letterspaced beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The Queen of the Missions, front on — the symmetrical twin-tower facade is the single most recognisable building on the California coast.
- Roses carry the bottom half — the garden is drawn as a real bed of blooms, not a decorative border.
- Mountains and stone in one frame — the Santa Ynez range gives the print depth that a straight architectural study would miss.
- Warm colour with a cool anchor — terracotta and rose against blue-green slopes, which keeps the whole thing balanced.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Terracotta, cream and rose put this print squarely in warm-toned rooms. It sits naturally on the terracotta wall shown in the photographs above, and it is just as comfortable on cream plaster, clay or a soft pink wall. Natural oak framing echoes the sandstone; espresso deepens the roof tiles. In a dining room with a wood table, or a bedroom with linen bedding, the magenta roses give the room its one strong colour.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The rose garden holds a lot of small detail, so 16" x 24" is the sensible minimum for a room you sit in. Above a bed or a long sideboard, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" lets the mountain ridges read properly.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship rolled and unframed, cut to standard US and A-series sizes. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
What does the poster say? The printed wording is SANTA BARBARA and CALIFORNIA. The building itself is Old Mission Santa Barbara, which is not lettered on the artwork, so the print reads as a city poster on the wall.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
