A Norfolk, Virginia travel poster that looks down the downtown harbourfront from high above the Elizabeth River. A row of steep, folded metal pavilion roofs steps along the quay, a stepped tower with a curved crown rises behind them, hundreds of boats fill the marina, and a long grey navy ship sits at the far pier beside cargo cranes.
About the artwork
Drawn as flat vector shapes with hard edges and no outline, the scene is built from a tight palette: petrol blue water, steel and slate blue roofs, pale cream tower facades, warm sand for the boardwalk, and a soft mid-blue sky. Wakes behind the small craft are cut as simple white slivers. Sailboats sit in the lower right with bare masts. The bird's-eye angle is unusual for a city print — you read the waterfront as a plan and an elevation at once. Typography is set at the top in white: NORFOLK above VIRGINIA, wide letter-spacing, all caps. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A working harbour, not a generic skyline — cranes, a naval hull and a marina share the same frame.
- Those pavilion roofs — the folded blue peaks along the quay are the shape people remember from the Norfolk waterfront.
- Blue on blue — one family of blues carries the water, the roofs and the sky, so it hangs quietly.
- For the Hampton Roads crowd — anyone who was stationed here, sailed here or grew up here reads it instantly.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The petrol and steel blues want a pale wall. Against the plain white in the photographs above, the cream tower reads as the warm point of the print. It also works on a soft grey or sage wall, and the sand-coloured boardwalk gives you a reason to keep oak or walnut furniture nearby. In a study or a hallway, hang it at eye level so the marina detail is close enough to read.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The harbour holds a lot of small detail. Above a sofa or a bed, go 24" x 36" or larger; 18" x 24" suits a desk wall or a narrow hallway.
Does it come framed? Paper ships rolled and unframed. Matte canvas is stretched and ready to hang. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? Two lines in white capitals across the sky: NORFOLK, and below it VIRGINIA. No other lettering appears on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
