A vintage western print: nine cowboy hats seen from above, arranged in a three by three grid, drawn in sepia line on a cream ground.
About the artwork
Drawing a hat from above is an odd choice and it is what makes this work. From overhead a hat is a crown and a brim — two concentric shapes — so nine of them become a pattern of rings before they become a row of hats. No two are identical: crown creases differ, brims curl at different angles, one band sits wider than the rest. The grid holds them still long enough for you to notice.
Why you'll love it
- Nine hats, no repeats. Each one drawn separately — look closely and the creases differ.
- Seen from above. An unusual angle that turns a hat into a shape.
- A grid you can count. Three by three — easy for a small child to read.
- Engraved line only. Every tone is hatching, the way a mail-order catalogue printed it.
- Built as a set. Every design in the western series shares one palette and one paper, so any combination lines up.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Grid prints are the easiest thing to hang in a child's room because they read as pattern from the door and as detail from the cot. This one also does well in a hallway, where the repetition suits a narrow wall. Natural oak keeps it soft; black frames make the grid look deliberate.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? 16" x 24" and up is best — nine small drawings need room, or the hatching merges.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Is it the same as the stamp version? Same nine hats, different treatment — that one puts the grid inside a stamp on deep brown.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
