A Navy Pier Chicago poster looking down the pier from above: the Ferris wheel turning on the right with orange-red gondolas hung on a web of cream spokes, the timber boardwalk below packed with hundreds of small figures, teal kiosks and market umbrellas along the edge, and a green-teal Lake Michigan behind, dotted with sailboats and cut by the long line of the breakwater.
About the artwork
A high oblique viewpoint drawn in flat, hard-edged shapes with restrained shading. The colour scheme is unusual and holds the whole print together: a pale sage-green sky with a thin gold band on the horizon, deep teal-green water, warm tan boardwalk planking, and orange-red used sparingly on the wheel gondolas, the bins and the brick pavilion in the bottom corner. The wheel is the only fine linework, a full radial web of spokes around a lit hub. Eight white sailboats are scattered across the lake, and black lamp posts with globe lights punctuate the pier edge. The lettering reads CHICAGO with ILLINOIS below. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The pier, not the skyline — this is the lake side of Chicago, looking out rather than up at downtown.
- Crowd detail — hundreds of individually drawn figures on the boardwalk, which is what makes the scale of the wheel land.
- Sage and teal — a softer, more muted palette than most city prints, so it does not shout on the wall.
- Summer on the lake — sailboats, umbrellas and the breakwater put a season on the picture.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The sage sky in this one is close to a paint colour, so it sits very comfortably on a sage or soft green wall — the sage room with the bamboo screen in the photographs above is the obvious match. On white or bone it reads brighter and the orange gondolas jump forward. Natural oak framing suits the boardwalk tan; black is the choice if you want the wheel spokes to read as graphic line.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The boardwalk crowd is tiny, so this one rewards size: 24" x 36" over a sofa or a bed. Below 18" x 24" the figures start to read as texture rather than people.
Does it come framed? Paper prints arrive unframed and rolled. Framed canvas ships ready to hang in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? The pier is not named on the artwork. The lettering across the sky reads CHICAGO in large white capitals with ILLINOIS beneath it, and there is no other text.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
