A Japanese wave print for a bathroom that needs color more than calm. Blue waves curl over one another in layered lines below a cream sky, with dark navy clusters of trees and streaks of red-orange and yellow-orange among them. It feels like weather arriving over the water.
About the artwork
The palette is blue, navy, red-orange and yellow-orange under a cream sky. The waves are built from many curling blue lines stacked in layers, drawn woodblock-style in the ukiyo-e manner, while clusters of navy trees give the eye something solid among the moving water. The warm streaks keep all that blue from turning cold. The lettering reads NAMI, with 波々 and a line of Japanese text, 波は止まらない. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- More than one color of water. Blue line waves meet red-orange and yellow-orange streaks, so the scene runs warmer than a blue-only sea.
- Trees anchor the waves. Navy clusters of trees give the busy water a solid, dark shape to hold onto.
- Line work that rewards a close look. Each wave is made of many layered lines, and the detail shows when you stand at the sink.
- Cream instead of white. The cream sky softens the print next to bright white tile and porcelain.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Put it in a bathroom with warm white, sand or soft blue walls, where the cream sky blends in and the orange streaks add heat. Over a vanity or a freestanding tub, 16" x 24" gives the layered lines room to show. A natural solid wood floating frame suits the warm tones; espresso deepens the navy trees. Pair it with terracotta or rust-colored towels to repeat the red-orange.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size works above a bathroom vanity? 16" x 24" suits most single vanities. For a double vanity or a tub wall, 24" x 36" fills the space better.
What lettering is on the print? The art carries NAMI in Latin letters, plus 波々 and the line 波は止まらない in Japanese.
Which colors should I match in the room? The blue waves and navy trees suit blue or white fixtures. The red-orange and yellow-orange streaks look good repeated in towels, a bath mat or a plant pot.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
