A Muir Woods National Monument poster built around the raised plank boardwalk. The walkway and its low timber rail curve up from the bottom edge and disappear into the grove, squeezed between two enormous fluted redwood trunks that run off the top of the sheet. Sword ferns, sorrel and a flowering shrub crowd the rail, and slender trunks fade into blue-green haze behind.
About the artwork
Dense painterly illustration — the bark is drawn as long vertical ribbons of cinnamon, rust and deep brown, with lit edges picked out rather than blocked in flat. The palette is redwood red on the two foreground trunks, layered forest, moss and sage greens through the canopy, pale teal in the atmospheric haze between trunks, warm honey on the boardwalk planks and small white blossoms along the left. A patch of teal sky and cream cumulus opens at the top, which is what keeps a shaded forest scene from going dark. White capitals across the lower third read MUIR WOODS, NATIONAL MONUMENT, then CALIFORNIA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The boardwalk is the subject — the raised walkway and rail are what visitors actually remember of Muir Woods, and they lead the eye straight into the grove.
- Scale you can read — the two trunks are cropped by both edges of the sheet, so the trees feel taller than the frame.
- Green that stays warm — cinnamon bark and honey planks balance the greens, so it does not read as a cold forest picture.
- A Marin County keepsake — for anyone who has driven over the headlands and walked the loop under the old growth.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Rust bark and deep green foliage sit naturally against cream, clay and mushroom walls. On a sage or olive wall the boardwalk reads as the warm accent; on charcoal the haze between the trunks glows. Natural oak frames pick up the plank tones, as in the arched alcove and sideboard photographs above. It also works in a hallway, where the receding path suits a long narrow view.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The bark texture and fern detail reward 24" x 36" or larger over a sofa. At 12" x 18" the trunk shapes and the pale walkway still carry, so smaller sizes suit a stairwell or a grid of forest prints.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed in standard 2:3 proportions. Framed canvas arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural with hardware fitted.
What does the poster say? Three lines in white capitals at the bottom: MUIR WOODS, then NATIONAL MONUMENT, then CALIFORNIA. The place name is printed in full, so the print explains itself on the wall.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
