A Mount Tamalpais State Park poster looking out from the summit shoulder: a steel lattice fire lookout with a red roof standing on a grassy knoll at the left, a small red-roofed hut beside it, dark firs and chaparral falling away down the slope, and a chain of ridges running off to the right until they sink into a low deck of fog that stretches to the horizon.
About the artwork
A carefully painted illustration with a lot of layered ridge work — each spur is drawn in its own value so the distance builds in steps rather than fading to grey. The colours are Marin colours: moss and grass green on the near ridge, bottle green and blue-black in the conifers, dusty sage and blue-green in the middle ridges, then a wide rolling white and pale grey fog deck. Above it a deep teal sky, cream cumulus banks to the left, a peach and buttermilk band along the horizon, and a small pale moon at the right. The lookout is drawn in rust red and dark steel. White type reads MOUNT TAMALPAIS above STATE PARK • CALIFORNIA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A structure to anchor it. The lookout gives the print a subject and a sense of height that a pure ridge view would not have.
- Marin's marine layer. Fog pouring in and settling below the summit is the defining weather of this mountain, and it fills half the frame.
- Green, not gold. Tamalpais holds its greens far longer than the inland Bay Area hills, and the palette follows that.
- A moon, not a sunset. The pale moon above the fog puts the scene in late afternoon rather than the usual golden-hour cliche.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Moss green, teal and soft fog white make this a calm, cool piece. It looks settled on white, bone or pale sage walls, and the rust red of the lookout gives you a thread to pick up with a terracotta lamp or a clay vase. Espresso or natural frames suit the forest tones better than black. It works over a sofa or a sideboard, as in the arched-alcove and sideboard photographs above.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The receding ridges need room to separate — 20" x 30" or larger. In a smaller space, 16" x 24" still keeps the lookout tower clearly drawn.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the poster say? The lettering reads MOUNT TAMALPAIS, with STATE PARK • CALIFORNIA on the line beneath.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
