A Montgomery Alabama travel poster looking straight up the broad avenue that ends at the state capitol. The road runs empty in the foreground, grass verges and street lamps line both sides, and the white capitol closes the view at the top of the rise, its columned portico and ribbed dome set against a wide, unbroken blue sky.
About the artwork
Flat vector shapes with a low horizon and a great deal of open sky, closer to a quiet photograph than to a busy poster. The palette is narrow and bright: a graded cornflower-to-pale blue sky filling the top two thirds, cool grey asphalt across the foreground, fresh mid-green lawns, and the capitol in near-white with soft grey shading in the portico and dome. Black lamp posts, a scatter of dark green trees, and a few pale monuments on the lawn provide the only strong accents. The avenue is the composition: the perspective lines of the road and kerbs pull the eye up to the building. Type is set in white capitals at the top, MONTGOMERY above a spaced ALABAMA. Portrait, 2:3.
About the place
This avenue and these capitol steps are where the Selma to Montgomery march ended on 25 March 1965, after three attempts and a walk of some fifty miles along Highway 80. Montgomery is also where the 1955-56 bus boycott began and held for 381 days. The print is a view of that ground, and it is offered as such.
Why you'll love it
- A view with weight — the empty road up to the capitol is the ground the marchers reached in March 1965.
- Calm composition — a low building on a high horizon under a big sky, restrained rather than crowded.
- Clean, quiet colour — blue, white, grey and green only, so it sits easily beside other work.
- Reads instantly — the portico and dome at the head of the avenue are recognisable at any size.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The wide field of blue makes this an easy print for a white or pale grey wall, and it holds its own without competing with furniture. A black frame gives the white building a clean edge, as in the panelled-wall shot above; oak keeps it softer. A study, a hallway or a landing suits it better than a heavily patterned room.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The composition is spacious, so it works small as well as large. 16" x 24" suits a hallway; 24" x 36" and up gives the sky room to breathe over a desk or sofa.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What building is at the end of the road? The Alabama State Capitol, shown from the foot of the avenue with its portico columns and dome facing down the hill.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
