This Monterey watercolor print shows Old Fisherman's Wharf stretching across Monterey Harbor, seen from the breakwater with sea lions resting on the rocks. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Monterey, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Pale blue washes build the harbor in layers, with vertical reflections of the buildings and pilings. Fine ink lines draw the wooden piles and board-and-batten roofs, the breakwater rocks are washed in grey-violet, and blue and yellow drips run down the left edge. The palette is grey-blue water, weathered wood and olive pine hills, with yellow, red and blue wharf buildings and a yellow kayak as accents. The wharf runs across the middle on its pilings, a white building with a red tile roof and Monterey cypress sits on the left, and pine-covered hills of the peninsula fill the background. A wide band of white paper opens the sky above. "MONTEREY" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Sea lions and otters. Sea lions sun on the breakwater while a sea otter floats on its back.
- Pelicans skimming. Pelicans glide low over the water.
- Colorful wharf shops. Painted board-and-batten buildings line the pier on wooden pilings.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Grey-blue, weathered wood and olive green suit a coastal living room, a bathroom or a den with natural textures. It is a good gift for someone who loves Monterey Bay or spent a summer on the Central Coast.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Monterey? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Monterey Harbor and the wharf, painted loosely in watercolor and ink rather than measured from one spot.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "MONTEREY," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
