A Montauk Point State Park poster seen from the beach south of the point: a long eroded clay bluff running away toward the headland, boulders scattered through the shallows, thin curling surf on a cobble shore, and the banded lighthouse with its keeper's houses standing on the grassy rim at the far end of Long Island.
About the artwork
A painted, closely worked illustration — layered brushwork in the clay face of the bluff, individual rocks in the wash, hatched line work in the water. The palette is dusk-toned rather than bright: slate and petrol blue in the Atlantic, pale sand and grey in the cobble, rust and ochre in the exposed bluff, dark moss on the headland scrub, and a soft peach band along the horizon on the right where the light drops. The tower is white with a single deep russet band. White type sits across the bottom: MONTAUK POINT above STATE PARK • NEW YORK. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The park, not just the tower. The bluff, the boulder beach and the eroding headland get as much of the frame as the lighthouse does.
- An end-of-the-road view. This is the last land on Long Island, and the composition looks along it rather than at it.
- Quiet colour. Muted slate, sand and rust sit calmly on a wall instead of shouting, which suits bedrooms and studies.
- For people who know the walk. Anyone who has come down from the bluff to Camp Hero's shoreline or fished the point will recognise the angle.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The dusty slate and sand palette is easy to place: it holds up on a chalk-white wall and looks especially settled against pale grey-blue or greige. A white or natural frame keeps the mood soft; black sharpens the horizon line if you want more contrast. It reads well over a linen bed or on a teak sideboard, as in the photographs above, and pairs naturally with other muted coastal work.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The bluff runs the full height of the print, so 20" x 30" or 24" x 36" gives that diagonal room to work. In a hallway or a gallery grouping, 12" x 18" still holds the lighthouse clearly.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Is there a version focused on the lighthouse itself? Yes. We also draw a separate Montauk Point Lighthouse design, a different composition of the same headland with the tower as the subject. Search the shop for Montauk Point Lighthouse to see it.
What does the poster say? The lettering reads MONTAUK POINT, with STATE PARK • NEW YORK on the line below.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
