This Merida, Mexico watercolor print shows the twin-towered Cathedral of San Ildefonso rising above the shaded Plaza Grande. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the city's main square, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Transparent ochre washes are layered over the cathedral's limestone, and fine ink picks out its carved details and arches. Laurel trees bloom in loose greens and yellows, and the left edge and bottom dissolve into pink, blue and yellow with a long drip at the lower left and splatter along a white paper border. Earthy ochre and laurel green lead the palette, with pastel pink facades, a mint-green building and red-pink flowers as accents. The cathedral sits at center, seen from slightly above the plaza; the carved facade of the Casa de Montejo and a pink arcade are on the right, and a mint arcaded building with a flagpole is on the left. Benches, palms and paved walkways fill the foreground in the warm dry season. "MÉRIDA" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Colonial square detail. Dense ink work captures arches, carved stone and the long arcades around the Plaza Grande.
- Calesa and vendors. A horse-drawn calesa, an ice-cream cart with a white umbrella and people chatting on white benches bring the plaza to life.
- Warm ochre tones. Limestone ochre and laurel green are brightened by pastel pink and mint facades.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.

Styling it at home
The warm ochre and soft pink suit a dining room, an entryway or a living room with wood and woven textures. Give it to someone who studied Spanish in Merida or keep it as a souvenir of a Yucatán trip.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Merida, Mexico? No. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Merida's main square. The viewpoint is raised a little, and some details are simplified.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "MÉRIDA," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
