A Melissani Cave poster from inside the collapsed cavern: dark rock framing both sides, curtains of ivy hanging from the broken roof, and shafts of daylight dropping onto a lake so clear the rowing boats seem to float above it.
About the artwork
Almost everything is dark, which is what lets the light do its job. The left and right thirds are near-black rock modelled in cool blue-grey planes, the strata drawn as long curving strokes, with trailing ivy across them in small separate leaves. Through the gap the sun comes down as a fan of pale translucent bands and lands on the water, which glows from bright turquoise at the centre to inky blue at the edges. Four small boats cross that light, red hulls and pale interiors, each with a standing oarsman, drawn tiny but clearly. The far wall is warm by contrast, grey-gold limestone with green shrubs rooted on the ledges and a wedge of daylit cliff behind. The foreground water is worked in short white and gold dashes that read as ripples when you step back. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Greece beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Light as the subject. The rays are the composition, not decoration laid on top of it.
- Deep tonal range. Near-black rock, mid-blue water and a bright core in one frame.
- Human scale. The boats and oarsmen give the cave a size you can feel.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
A dark print, so give it a wall with some light on it: over a bed, in a study, or against deep green, charcoal or inky blue where the turquoise can glow. It suits walnut, brass and dark leather more than pale Scandinavian wood. A black frame disappears into the rock; natural oak lifts it. It sits well beside the Monemvasia print, two Greek scenes in very different moods.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Is this too dark for a bright room? It holds up in daylight but is at its best on a wall that gets some direct light. Matte canvas suits it well, since there is no glare across the dark areas.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
