A Malibu Creek State Park poster looking up the narrow gorge at the Rock Pool. Two walls of rust and ochre volcanic rock lean in from either side, coast live oaks grip the ledges, and the creek lies flat and green below, holding a mirrored reflection of cloud and cliff. Beyond the gap the canyon opens onto dry gold Santa Monica Mountains hills.
About the artwork
A painterly illustration with fine linework in the rock: the cliff faces are built from stacked, chiselled facets in burnt orange, brick and warm grey, with pale grey boulders along the right bank. Deep olive and sage oak canopies break the stone, tussock grass fills the left foreground, and the water carries long vertical reflections in blue-grey and gold. Above the gorge, a stack of white cumulus sits against a pale teal sky. The title block is set in white at the base: MALIBU CREEK, with STATE PARK and CALIFORNIA below it. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The inland Malibu — this is the gorge and the Rock Pool, not the beach, which is what surprises most first-time visitors.
- Volcanic rock rendered properly — the faceted, iron-stained cliffs are the reason the canyon looks like nowhere else in the Santa Monicas.
- A quiet water scene — the still creek and its reflection give the print a calm centre despite the strong rock colour.
- For hikers of the Crags Road trail — a recognisable view for anyone who has walked in from the Las Virgenes parking lot.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Terracotta and olive dominate, so the print settles into rooms with clay, sand or warm white walls and leather or rattan furniture. Against a cooler grey wall the orange cliff reads as the accent and does the work of a colour block. A natural oak frame keeps it soft; espresso deepens the rock. It suits a living room over a low sideboard, or a home office where the still water is the point, much like the arched alcove and stone-table settings shown above.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The gorge composition rewards scale, so 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" over a sofa. For a stair wall or a paired hang, 16" x 24" keeps the cliff detail legible.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang out of the box.
What does the poster say? The lettering reads MALIBU CREEK across the bottom, with STATE PARK and CALIFORNIA on the line beneath. The park is inland in the Santa Monica Mountains near Calabasas, a different landscape from the Malibu coastline, which the store covers with its separate Leo Carrillo beach print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
