A madrid travel poster from a rooftop above Gran Via: the avenue sweeping away between stone facades, a slate and gold dome with its winged figure in the left foreground, and the city spreading out pale and endless to the horizon.
About the artwork
Almost the whole picture is one family of colour — limestone in cream, sand, bone and pale gold — and the drama comes from the shadow the buildings throw across the street rather than from any bright hue. The dome in the corner is the exception, painted deep blue-slate with gilded ornament and a golden figure on top, and it anchors the composition the way a foreground tree anchors a landscape. Down the avenue the street lamps march away in pairs, cars are reduced to small dark marks, and the facades stack balcony on balcony with statues along the roofline. The far half of the picture dissolves into layered rooftops and towers, drawn lighter and cooler until it meets a flat blue band of sky. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with Spain beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The gilded dome up front. A single ornate detail against acres of plain stone, and it gives the print its focal point.
- Rooftop depth. The city keeps going for miles, which is what makes it feel like Madrid rather than any grand avenue.
- A genuinely neutral print. Cream, sand and stone, so it works in rooms where colour would be too much.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
This is the easiest print in the Spain group to place: the palette is almost entirely warm neutral, so it disappears into cream, greige and off-white schemes and lets texture do the talking. It looks especially good in a home office or above a sideboard. Black frames give the stone some edge; natural oak keeps it soft. It pairs well with the Seville, Ronda and Toledo prints.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
Do you have another Madrid design? Yes — this one is the Gran Via rooftop view. The separate Plaza Mayor print shows the arcaded square at street level instead.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
