A Madison Wisconsin travel poster taken from the air, looking down the narrow isthmus the city is built on. The white capitol dome sits on the high ground at the centre, low blocks and tree-lined streets fall away on either side, and lake water wraps the land on both flanks with sailboats scattered across it.
About the artwork
A soft, atmospheric illustration rather than hard-edged flat vector: layered bands of colour with a fine grain and a haze that lightens toward the horizon. The palette is almost entirely cool — petrol and slate blue in the lake, pale sage and dove grey across the rooftops, muted olive in the tree canopies, and a very pale washed sky. Small warm accents come from a few terracotta and cream buildings on the near shoreline. Detail is dense but tiny: docks, moored boats, a wooded point, white sails drawn as single triangles, and the ribbed dome with its lantern and finial. Type is set in white capitals at the top, MADISON above a spaced WISCONSIN. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The isthmus, seen properly — the aerial angle is the only way to show why Madison sits the way it does, with water on both sides.
- The dome as the anchor — the capitol on its hill gives the whole composition a single point to read from.
- A genuinely calm palette — petrol blue, sage and grey, no loud colour anywhere in it.
- Rewards distance and closeness — a quiet block of blue from across a room, a map of docks and rooftops up close.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cool blue-greys want a cool or neutral wall: white, chalk, pale grey, or the sage-green room in the photographs above, which picks up the olive in the tree line. A black frame sharpens it; oak softens it. It suits a home office or a study, where the aerial detail gets looked at from close range, better than a busy living room wall.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? This one benefits from size because of the small detail. 24" x 36" and up lets you read the docks and boats; below 16" x 24" it becomes a mood piece rather than a view.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas comes in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
Which direction is the view? It looks along the isthmus with lake water on both sides of the city and the capitol dome on the rise in the middle distance.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
