A Mackinac Island Michigan poster that looks down Main Street from a second-storey window: a bay horse drawing an enclosed carriage past a long rank of parked cruiser bicycles, Victorian storefronts hung with pink petunia baskets on one side, and a white passenger ferry tied up at the pier on turquoise water on the other.
About the artwork
Drawn in the detailed screen-print manner of mid-century travel posters: hard-edged shapes, stippled shading and a high vantage point that pulls the street into deep perspective. The palette runs pale butter yellow and mint clapboard against turquoise lake water, with magenta flower baskets and burgundy, cream and seafoam bicycles as accents. Small details reward a close look, from the wooden dock pilings and the riprap breakwater to the carriage lamps and the long shadows stretched across the pavement. The title MACKINAC ISLAND is set across the sky in wide white serif capitals, with MICHIGAN beneath it. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The island's own logic, drawn plainly — no cars anywhere, only horses and bicycles, which is the detail everyone remembers about Mackinac.
- A real vantage point — the elevated angle over Main Street reads like the view from a hotel porch rather than a stock skyline.
- Summer colour that carries a room — turquoise water and pink petunias give a bright, warm focal point on a plain wall.
- Made for people who went — the ferry at the dock, the bike rank and the carriage stand are the exact sequence of a day trip across the straits.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The turquoise water and mint clapboard read cleanly against soft white, pale grey or a light sage wall, which is why the sage room in the photographs above suits it so well. In a living room it pairs with natural oak and rattan; over a bed, a warm walnut or gold frame picks up the butter yellow building on the left. Keep the surrounding wall uncluttered, because the crowd of bicycles is already busy.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a sofa or a queen bed, 24" x 36" holds the wall. For a hallway, a stair wall or a gallery grouping, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24" is the easier fit. The street detail stays legible from about 18" x 24" up.
Does it come framed? Paper prints arrive unframed and rolled. If you want it ready to hang, choose framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural.
What does the print say? The lettering across the sky reads MACKINAC ISLAND, with MICHIGAN set below it in smaller capitals. There is no other text on the artwork.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
