A lyon travel poster from the cobbled quay: still river water down the middle, a wall of ochre, coral and terracotta facades along the far bank, a dark gothic spire on the left, and the white basilica towers on the wooded hill above.
About the artwork
Three horizontal layers stacked and lit from one side. The bottom third is paving — fan-pattern cobbles in warm sand, drawn stone by stone, running to a vanishing point that puts you on the riverbank rather than looking at a postcard. The middle is the real subject: a continuous terrace of tall narrow houses, each one a slightly different shade of rust, apricot, salmon or cream, with hundreds of individual windows and shutters picked out in blue-grey. The spire on the left is drawn in cool slate and breaks the horizontal rhythm. On the hill the basilica is rendered almost white, hazy with distance, sitting above stepped rooftops and dark trees. The sky is a flat teal blue. Warm architecture, cool water and sky — the whole thing runs on that one contrast. Title in wide-tracked uppercase with France beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A wall of terracotta. Dozens of facade colours that never repeat exactly, which is what makes it worth looking at up close.
- The hill in the background. Gives the flat riverfront a skyline and a sense of height.
- Rust against teal. A complementary pairing that carries a room without shouting.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The rust and apricot tones make this a natural fit for a dining room or kitchen, especially against cream, clay or warm grey walls. It sits well with copper, ceramic and mid-tone wood. Walnut frames deepen the terracotta; a slim black frame makes the water and sky snap. It hangs happily beside the Paris, Colmar or Annecy prints as a France group.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper prints ship unframed and fit standard frames. Choose a framed canvas if you would rather skip the framing shop.
What is on the hill? The basilica on Fourviere hill, seen from the riverside quay below the old town.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
