A Kyoto pagoda print for a living room that gets used most after dark. Lanterns glow yellow along an old street, the red Yasaka pagoda rises into a navy sky full of stars, and a full moon hangs over a far-off city. It holds the quiet of a late walk home through the old town.
About the artwork
The palette splits warm against cool: lantern yellow and pagoda red set against a deep navy sky scattered with stars. A full moon adds a pale disc of light, and the distant city stays small, so the old street and the pagoda carry the picture. It is drawn in a retro poster style. The lettering reads "KYOTO JAPAN", and the characters 法観寺 name Hokan-ji, the temple of the Yasaka pagoda. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- Two kinds of light. Warm lantern yellow on the street and a pale full moon above give the night scene two separate sources of glow.
- A named landmark. The red pagoda is the Yasaka pagoda of Hokan-ji, written on the art as 法観寺, not a generic temple shape.
- Night without gloom. The navy sky is scattered with stars, so the dark areas stay lively instead of reading as one flat block.
- Warm against cool. Red and yellow set against navy is a strong contrast that reads clearly from across a room.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Hang it over a sofa or a low media console in the living room, where evening lamps pick up the lantern yellow. The navy sky sits well on a warm white, pale gray or soft sand wall, and an espresso or black wood frame deepens the night. At 24" x 36" it anchors a sofa wall on its own. Pair it with a small ink print of a full moon to echo the pale disc in the sky.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What does 法観寺 on the print refer to? The characters read Hokan-ji, the temple of the red Yasaka pagoda shown in the picture. The Latin lettering reads KYOTO JAPAN.
What size works over a standard sofa? For a sofa around 80 inches wide, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" keeps the pagoda readable from the seats. 18" x 24" suits a side wall or the space above a console.
Which frame color suits the night palette? A black or espresso solid wood floating frame deepens the navy sky, while a natural wood frame picks up the lantern yellow.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
